BJP Submissions

You asked. We listened.

Our community wanted a direct channel to submit their work to the BJP editorial team. Say hello to BJP Submissions.

A brand new addition to 1854 Access, BJP Submissions will involve a series of themed prompts inviting photographers to respond with relevant work.  The editorial team will regularly browse submissions for selections to feature on BJP’s channels.

We welcome photographers to respond to our first BJP Submissions prompt below.

Utopia, by its very nature, can never exist. But, amid a worldwide pandemic that has altered, and in many ways suspended the chaotic world we knew, what image does the word utopia evoke for you?
Perhaps it is a place where we are free to touch again, be outside among others, travel to somewhere we love. Or can a kind of utopia be found amid this crisis, which is almost dystopian in the illness and death it has wrought? For above desolate city streets, stars have returned, oceans have quietened, the machinery of capitalism is unsettled, and the unrelenting pollution of our fragile planet has momentarily slowed. Perhaps, however, your image is unrelated to the now — something completely abstract; divorced from reality.
At a time that may provide space for creativity and also self-reflection, we invite you to send us an existing photograph, or something new, in response to the word utopia.
Browse inspiration from other photographers who have responded to the Utopia brief, including Mikhael Subotzky, Justine Kurland, Alfredo Jaar, Rhiannon Adam, Jabulani Dhlamini, Cao Fei, Tabita Rezaire, and Tereza Zelenkova in Picture This: Utopia and fill out the form to be considered.
